Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Samsung’s upcoming phablet Galaxy Note 6 has been spotted on benchmarking site CPU-Z. Someone claiming to be a Samsung employee sent out a CPU-Z screenshot to the media, revealing details of the Note 6. According to the screenshot, the phablet would have a 5.77-inch display, a whopping 6GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and the Exynos 8890 processor that powers the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
Note 6 unlikely to bring major design changes
Unfortunately, the screenshot has turned out to be fake! Phone Arena, which first published the report, said, “After closer inspection, we’re pretty sure that the screenshot is fake. Sorry, guys!” Anyway, it showed some of the features that have been rumored over the past few months. In terms of design, the phone is expected to be similar to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 5.
Samsung will reportedly stick to the Quad HD display panel rather than upgrading to 4K for Note 6. The phablet will come with IP68 certification, meaning it will be Samsung’s first Note phablet with dustproofing and waterproofing capabilities. The CPU-Z screenshot shows the Note 6 running Android Marshmallow, but the phone is likely to come with Android N.
Galaxy Note 6 code named ‘Grace’
A separate report last week revealed that the Galaxy Note 6 is internally code named “Grace.” The upcoming phablet is said to be available in two variants, one powered by Exynos 8890 and another by Snapdragon 823 SoC. But if Samsung wants to stick with Exynos 8890, the company is unlikely to use Snapdragon 823 that will be more powerful than Exynos. It would lead to performance gap between two versions of the same device.
Among other things, the Galaxy Note 6 will reportedly feature a huge 3,700mAh battery with fast charging capabilities, and an iris scanner. Following the footsteps of the Galaxy S7, it will also bring back the microSD card slot. Samsung recently started mass production of 256GB UFS 2.0 memory, which it could use in the Note 6.
