Facebook To Launch Mobile Ad Network This Month [REPORT]

Facebook’s plans to launch mobile advertising

Recode.net was the first to report Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s plan to pitch advertisements to developers and publishers. This is an effort to leverage user data to create more custom advertisements. The big win for Facebook would be the expansion of their ad reach.

Many people have wanted Facebook to create an ad network for quite some time now. The social network previously tried to start up an advertising network but nixed it before it started. A few years ago, All Things D reported, “The social giant is putting the brakes on a test it launched earlier this year that let it place its own ads on other developer’s mobile apps. And while it has also been talking to publishers about running Facebook ads on their mobile Web sites, sources say those discussions have now been back-burnered as well. The upshot is that plans to launch the equivalent of Google’s AdSense network, which has generated significant income for the search giant, won’t be showing up in the next few months.”

Facebook mobile ads show success

During the last three months of 2013, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s mobile ads generated over half of the company’s revenues with $1.24 billion. The F8 developer conference should also show how successful the search giant’s first quarter earnings were. About half of that number comes from application-installed advertisements which prompt users to either download apps or use apps already installed.

Mike Vernal, engineering and platform leader for Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), worked on Facebook’s mobile ad strategy. At one point of the development process, Vernal only had one single engineer working on the project. Since then, he was promoted to vice president and is part of Mark Zuckerberg’s group of trusted advisors.
