Facebook Inc (FB) Messenger Adds Video Sharing And Selfies Support

Updated on

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has recently made it clear that it would be stripping out chatting functionality from its main app, and soon it will force users to install and use Messenger for chatting purposes. From what it looks like, Facebook is in a desperate mood to push its Messenger app. Facebook has now gone one step further and rolled out an update for its Messenger app. This new update comes with some brand new features with an emphasis on visual communication.

Facebook Messenger gets three notable updates

With the new Facebook Messenger 5.0, the company has tweaked the app’s UI to add video sharing, quicker photo sharing, and sticker shortcuts. Up until now, Facebook Messenger was able to send only photos and not videos, but now the app allows users to send videos and watch them online. There’s no functionality to record video, however, and to do this, you’ll need to use your phone’s camera app.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) also wants to promote Stickers, and to do this, when someone sends you stickers, you can now tap and hold it to download that sticker pack. Chatting is also made quicker, all thanks to an always open search bar on the conversation tab.

The biggest change is that it is now more easier to capture selfies. To do this, tap on the camera icon and then you’ll be able to see the view from the front facing camera. Tap once more to capture your selfie. This is much faster compared to other apps like Snapchat.

With these changes, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is going more Snapchat like way. The new Messenger app might not have self-deleting photos and videos, but it still offers a more convenient way to share such stuff. With minor updates like these, Facebook wants to ensure that it doesn’t stays behind apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat.

You can update the Facebook Messenger app via the App Store, or download it from the below link. A similar Android update is expected to arrive later this week.
