BlackBerry Priv Could Cost As Much As $630 [REPORT]

Updated on

BlackBerry’s first Android-powered handset Priv will be offered in China at a price of RMB 3,999, i.e. around $630, according to Leaksfly, a well-known Chinese leakster who revealed the information on Weibo. A few days back, the Canadian firm’s CEO John Chen said the device will come with a high-end price tag.

A high-end phone

During the Code/Mobile conference last week, Chen said that though it will be a high-end phone, the company will make the device financially affordable for the customers whether that’s by installments or something else.

A Redditor, who got a chance to handle the Priv last week, noted that the handset has a sharp screen and is thinner than the Galaxy Note 5. The device has an 18MP camera. The handset will feature a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and its release is going to be a pivotal for the company’s history. The BlackBerry Priv may be be the last attempt by the struggling company to revive its smartphone business.

The BlackBerry Priv is going to determine the company’s future, said Chen earlier. In the past year, Chen has worked hard to bring the firm’s smartphone division back into the game, but so far the results have been less than satisfactory.

BlackBerry Priv – Marshmallow or Lollipop

The BlackBerry Priv will be oriented towards securing data, even on Android. The new handset is expected to run on Android Lollipop, but there is a distinct possibility that it could be the first non-Nexus smartphone to run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There are reports that the Internet firm wants to boost Android’s reach, and also wants to add a new and important partner on board, and for this reason it would allow BlackBerry to use the new version of Android in the BlackBerry Priv.

Carphone Warehouse is very much curious about the interest in the Priv, and most likely it will be among the first to actually sell the phone, says a report from Geeksnack. Residents of UK with valid addresses within the country can register for updates with Carphone Warehouse. The company has not yet confirmed the release date for Priv, but the device is expected to arrive sometime in November.
