BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) recently sent out invitations to a mystery event. Invites were initially sent out for an event in Malaysia, but then invites were seen in France and India. Although the poster shows the BlackBerry Z30 smartphone, the event could also be for a BlackBerry Messenger cross platform. For now, fans will have to wait for the actual event to see what the Canadian tech giant has to offer.

BlackBerry is the possibility of being bought up by Microsoft

Another interesting note for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) is the possibility of being bought up by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). According to, the Surface maker is a potential buyer for the failing brand. The tech giant recently acquired Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V), another big name that could be just the thing to leverage the brand into something bigger. With stiff competition from the likes of Samsung and Apple, sometimes it’s necessary to combine two powerful brands to create a more powerful one.

Peter Misek for Jefferies explained, “Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s handset business makes Microsoft’s potential acquisition of BlackBerry more likely rather than less. With Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s handset business and BlackBerry, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) would become the definitive No. 3 handset player, with better carrier access and production economies of scale and the leader in enterprise mobile devices.”

Days ago, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) lobbied with the Canadian government in hopes of creating a path for an easy foreign takeover. Lenovo, IBM, and ZTE could be on the potential buyer list if BlackBerry dissolves. With that said, a bid from another Canadian-based company is still possible.

The poor sales and lack of interest in BlackBerry

It’s evident that the poor sales and lack of interest in BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) devices prove that their days are numbered. This is why the company is working to find another company to buy them up before it’s too late. There is also the possibility that nobody will make an offer to purchase the failing tech giant. If that’s the case, BlackBerry’s future is limited.
