Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has released an update for its messaging application, BBM for iOS. The company released BBM for iOS alongside BBM for Android on Monday. The application has received some reasonably good reviews, but it needs a little work. Blackberry is getting to it in this new update. The update is available for free, and users who still do not have BBM for iOS can download the latest version for free.
The patch for the messaging software will fix a range of minor issues on BBM for iOS. It also manages to add a couple of features to the software. Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is currently in the process of selling itself, and nobody is sure who is going to end up in charge of the company in a year’s time. Fans of BBM for iOS and BBM for Android are hoping the new Blackberry continues to support the service.
BBM for iOS update
Blackberry Messenger for iOS saw a couple of key changes in today’s update. In terms of features, the changes added contact categories, along with list filtering and sorting in a user’s BBM groups. Those features are kind of expected from BBM for iOS, and it is good to know that they are not part of the application.
BBM for iOS also got a couple of its bugs fixed in this software update. A font related bug that apparently can cause the application to crash at random has been fixed according to Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY). That issue, and a couple of others, seem to happen on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS 7.0.3. It may be a little while before the company manages to get the software running perfectly on the latest operating system.
BBM for iOS review
BBM For iOS was released to good, but not overwhelmingly positive, reviews. Those who managed to get their hands on the messaging application early on said that it was very fast and smooth and it did the job it’s supposed to do. The problem is that the software is missing features that can wow the iOS using public.
As long as Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) keeps BBM for Android working, it will attract a certain population of users. It will not be enough to save the company. Blackberry needs to continue to update BBM for iOS until it offers a feature that makes users download the application, even if they don’t know who Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is.
