Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) is reportedly registering their trademarks for Nook and Nook Media in Russia. After it’s most recent expansion to the United Kingdom, the US-based bookseller is poised to take one of the world’s largest markets.

A recent report from a Russian news publication that Barnes & Noble wants to offer their popular tablet and Nook services to the Russian market. They hope to start offering the product and services by 2013 with the help of Microsoft.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) has yet to build sales channels not have they made any agreements with retailers of public knowledge. There is one agreement they made with eLibrary LitRes, a digital purveyor of about 55,000 Russian ebooks which would be sold in US and UK markets. There is contadictory reports on whether LitRess will join the Nook project.

The bookseller giant still has a long way to go if they want to make this happen. Right now it appears that the company is also trying to grow their market in the UK. They recently announced  the launch of PubIt! in the following countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and North Ireland. This new program is a self-service publishing program for ebooks. Each eBook retails between  £1.50 and £7.99.and publishers will receive a royalty of 40%. When an eBook is priced below or over that amount, they will get a 65% royalty.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) now offers the following Nook devices in the United Kingdom: Nook HD, Nook HD+, Nook Simple Touch, and Nook Simple Touch Glowlight. They also offer Nook apps for iPads and iPhones.

It’s good to know that Barnes & Noble is expanding their Nook empire in European markets. It’s only a matter of time until they expand further to other countries throughout Europe and Asia. In a world market where digital books are replacing traditional books, it’s crucial that Barnes & Noble adapt to these changes while expanding their services throughout the world.
