James Welch serves as our Senior Portfolio Manager specializing in tax sensitive fixed income. In addition to assisting Castleton’s current efforts in designing customized client focused investment solutions, Mr. Welch’s responsibilities include the management and structuring of Castleton Partners’ opportunistic income and high yield tax exempt strategies.
Mr. Welch has over twenty years of fixed income experience, with a particular
emphasis on lower investment grade and high yield municipals. Over the course of his career, Mr. Welch has been recognized by Lipper Analytical for best in class municipal bond fund performance, including high yield tax exempts. Prior to joining Castleton, Mr. Welch was a Senior Portfolio Manager at Standish Mellon, a fixed income asset manager of BNY Asset Management, where he managed over $10 billion in tax exempt and taxable portfolios for high net worth individuals, mutual funds, and insurance companies. Prior to Standish, Mr. Welch was a Senior Portfolio Manager for The Dreyfus Corporation, where he was a member of the municipal bond team directly overseeing $3 billion of tax exempt mandates that covered the entire credit and maturity spectrum of the municipal bond market.
Mr. Welch has a BA in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University.
