Arnon Rodthong Will Make You Wealthy If You Marry His ‘Virgin’ Daughter

Updated on

A man in Thailand has taken it upon himself to find the groom for his 26-year-old ‘virgin’ daughter. Arnon Rodthong, 58, is a multi-millionaire durian farm owner in Chumphon province of Thailand. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, he promised to make you insanely wealthy if you turn out to be the right guy for his daughter Karnsita Rodthong.

The Facebook post has since gone viral, attracting more than 12,000 likes, 2,800 shares, and 3,300 comments on the platform. It has also been picked up by major media outlets around the world. Arnon Rodthong is offering $315,000 cash and his entire estate to his future son-in-law. Karnsita is ‘still single’ and helps her father run the family business.

In his Facebook post, the father said his daughter speaks fluent English and Chinese, and is a virgin. The Thai durian tycoon doesn’t care about the nationality or college degrees of his future son-in-law. So far, Arnon Rodthong has received more than 10,000 proposals from eligible bachelors for his daughter’s hand in marriage.

Rodthong’s durian farm processes about 50 tons of it every day, and it’s biggest in the region. For the uninitiated, durian is “the world’s smelliest fruit.” In many parts of Thailand, custom dictates that a man is supposed to pay a dowry for his future wife. A university-educated girl like Karnsita Rodthong would command a high dowry.

Mr Rodthong has not only waived that ‘fee’ but also offered to pay 10 million Thai baht ($315,000). The future son-in-law will also get his durian farm, which is valued at several million dollars.

Not without terms and conditions

Arnon Rodthong said he wanted a person who could “take care of my business and make it last.” He doesn’t want a person with “a bachelor’s, or master’s or philosopher’s degree.” He just wants a diligent and thrifty man with a hard-working attitude. The future son-in-law need not be rich either. The right man should “work hard and make Karnsita happy.” Also, the successful candidate must not smoke or gamble.

Mr Rodthong has several other children including sons who could inherit the business. But he says, “As soon as I have an in-law, I will give up all my assets to him.” Besides the durian farm, he also owns land and other properties in Thailand. “If I wait for a son-in-law to come here and ask, it will be too slow, so I’m asking for one right now.”

What was Karnsita Rodthong’s reaction?

According to local media, Karnsita said she was surprised to see her father’s announcement on social media. She came to know about it through her friends. “I was surprised but I can see the funny side to it, too,” she said. The daughter added that she was “still single.” While her father was the one to make the public offer, it will be Karnsita who will decide who she wanted to marry.

If she had to get married to someone, the man should “be a diligent and good person who loves his family.” Karnsita pointed out that her future husband might not get to pocket all the money her father is offering because she would want to use that money “for plastic surgery in Korea.”

“I’m not very good-looking myself, so I’m okay with any appearance,” she told media. She is not picky about looks. Karnsita Rodthong graduated from the Assumption University in Bangkok. She also holds a Chinese-language diploma from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China.

Get ready for a tournament, says Arnon Rodthong

Mr Rodthong’s offer has received an overwhelming response from around the world. According to AsiaOne, he has received more than 10,000 applications. He can’t respond to each of them. So, he will hold a tournament starting April 1st to find the right husband for his daughter.

So, what does the tournament involve? In a Facebook post, he asked potential suitors to “be prepared to stay and work in my durian plantation for three months.” There you have it. If you are willing to get your hands dirty in the durian farm, head over to the Chumphon province of Thailand before April 1st.

Mr Rodthong said if there is more than one contender left at the end of three months, he will extend it for another three months. It will continue “until there is only one man left.” Are you willing to participate?
