Apple's iPhone With 6 Inch Screen aka iPhablet Coming Soon [But Not Tomorrow]

According to Wall Street Journal‘s Ian Sherr, Eva Dou, and Lorraine Luk, the Cupertino-based tech giant is currently testing larger iPhone screens ranging from 4.8 inches to 6 inches. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s biggest rival Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) already offers customers a choice of phones in different sizes including Galaxy Note 3 which measures about 5.7 inches.

A multi-size strategy would echo Apple’s approach to the iPod

Although  it’s still uncertain whether or not this company will release a smartphone in a larger size. Sources for the company who are knowledgable on the company’s initial plans claim that the company may be ready to move ahead with larger phones. Wall Street Journal reports “A multi-size strategy would echo Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s approach to the iPod, as that once-groundbreaking product line matured. Broadening iPhone offerings would also allow Apple to address a threat from Samsung: growth outside the U.S., where Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) and rivals like Lenovo Group Ltd. are still expanding. Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said in April the company sees a “significant opportunity in China” with an unusually large number of potential first-time smartphone buyers there. Increasing sales in the country could also help Apple reverse stalled revenue growth and contracting profits, analysts say. “

Apple is a tough competitor

If Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was to release a larger smartphone, it would prove that Apple is a tough competitor. It would also show investors that are serious enough to win it. It’s only a matter of time until they reclaims their top position on the smartphone throne, all they need is the right product at the right time. That said, it’s still probable that the tech giant could succeed with just the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.
