Apple Inc. Woos Cupertino Residents To Support Spaceship Campus

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has mailed a leaflet to Cupertino residents in order to convince them to support the building of the company’s new “spaceship” campus inside the boundaries of the town. A vote will be held tomorrow in which Cupertino residents will voice their opinions on the future of the project which Apple has dubbed Apple Campus 2.

The leaflet contains little information about the new Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) campus, instead relying on images of the design, with short descriptions of its features. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $500 million, though that will have little effect on the Apple cash pile.

Apple campus permission

The Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) campus, which was unveiled to the Cupertino City Council by Steve Jobs back in 2011, will need to pass two votes in the city before construction can begin. Given the amount of the town’s residents that work at the company and the pride resulting from headquartering the world’s most valuable company, it seems likely that the vote will pass. There is no official polling data available, however.

The leaflet that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) sent to residents does little other than show what the new building would be like to look at. Apple is a fan of letting the design of their products speak for themselves, and the new company headquarters appear to be no different. A letter from Apple CEO Tim Cook was also included in the mailer.

If the October 15 vote passes there will be a second vote held in November in order to confirm the assent of residents to the new project. The Cupertino company has not revealed when it expects the campus to be finished, assuming it gets permission to build it, but projections suggest it will be finished by mid-2016.

Apple spaceship campus

The Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Campus 2, known as the “spaceship” headquarters, will be a 175 acre site with several different facilities including a central circular building of 2,800,000 square feet, which will hold 13,000 employees, a 1,000 seat auditorium, and an environmentally protective energy generating facility which will be the campus’ main source of energy.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) also plans to have an orchard on the site, a nod to the company’s name and its world famous logo.
