Apple Inc. (AAPL) U.S. Smartphone Market Share Still Rising [REPORT]

The share of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the smartphone market in the United States is still rising, according to the results of the latest survey released by comScore, a digital measurement and analytics firm.

Apple tops OEMs in the U.S.

According to the survey, the iPhone and iPad maker is the leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the United States with 41.2% market share among U.S. subscribers during the three month period that ended November 2013. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 0.5% from its previous market share of 40.7% during the August quarter last year.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (LON:BC94) (KRX:005935), the maker of the Galaxy smartphones, ranked second with a 26% market share among U.S. subscribers. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s market share is significantly higher than Samsung’s. However, take note that the South Korean smartphone manufacturer’s growth rate was faster during the three month period as it added 1.7% from its previous market share of 24.3%.

The market share of other OEM’s including Motorola Mobility, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), LG Electronics Inc (KRX:066570), and HTC Corp (TPE:2498) declined.

Motorola Mobility’s market share dropped by 0.2% to 6.7%, LG Electronics Inc (KRX:066570) also suffered a 0.2% decline to 6.5% while HTC Corp (TPE:2498) fell 0.1% to 6.4%.

Google’s Android remains number one OS

In terms of mobile operating system, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Android remained number one with a 51.9% market share, up by 0.3%. The iOS from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has a 4.2% market share, up by 0.5%.

The market share of BlackBerry and Symbian operating systems from BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) dropped by 0.5% to 3.5% and 0.1% to 0.3%, respectively. On the other hand, Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone OS also fell by 0.1% to 0.2% during the November quarter.

Google Sites, Facebook lead smartphone browsing & app audience

comScore also found that Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has the largest market share in terms of smartphone browsing and app audience with 86.7% and 84.9%, respectively. Yahoo! Inc (NASDAQ:YHOO) ranked third with a 79.4% market share followed by Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) with 72.5% share. AOL Inc (NYSE:AOL) ranked fifth with 61.1% market share.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) obtained the largest mobile app audience with 76.2% followed by Pandora Media Inc (NYSE:P) with 52%, Google Play 51.6%, Google Search 50.4%, and You Tube 44.6%.
