Launch Venue still unclear

AllThingsD was the first source to reveal the proposed media event of Apple. There was, however, no information over the venue of the event. The event could be held in Apple’s Cupertino, Calif., campus or the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Previously, Apple organized events to launch iPad minis and fourth generation iPads in San Jose, but there is no word over the venue this year.

Expected specifications

The upcoming 9.7 inches iPad is expected to have a redesigned chassis, which will be similar to iPad mini. The weight and the thickness of the gadget will be trimmed.

AppleInsider got its hand on some schematics, and the pictures complement the leaked parts of the fifth generation iPad that have been in the news recently.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad mini will supposedly come with a high resolution Retina display in its second generation variant. Both iPad and iPad mini will sport an 8 megapixel rear facing camera like iPhone. However, there is no information on whether the iPad and iPad mini will be laced with Touch ID fingerprint sensor like in iPhone 5S.

A report from CE’s Micah Singleton noted that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPad mini will not have an A7 processor and will be powered by A6 used in iPhone 5C. However, a report of AllThingsD differs and says that the iPad mini will have A7 processors.

Apple to counter competition with the launch of iPads

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will launch its new iPads ahead of the holiday shopping season to counter the rising competition, from Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HDX, Microsoft’s surface 2 and Google’s Nexus 7. Apple’s event will coincide with that of Nokia’s event in Dubai, where the Finnish firm is expected to showcase six gadgets including Nokia’s first Window tablet.
