Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) introduced iTunes Radio during the WorldWide Developers Conference. The tech giant already takes the lead with iTunes for the song download market, but they had yet to make an impact in the music streaming market. This new service could change all of that.

Apple iTunes Radio has customizable stations

iTunes Radio offers 250 stations, or customizable stations, that start with a particular artist or song. This new service works on iPhones, iPod Touches, iPads, Mac computers, and PCs. Since the stations are on iCloud, it’s easy to switch devices while playing the same radio station, as no syncing is required. Users who want the radio experience without the ads can subscribe to iTunes Match, which is just $24.99 a year.

Genius Shuffle is another handy feature that will allow users to play songs that go great together. It’s easy to use—just go to your playlist, select a song, and right click to Genius Mix to create the playlist.

iTunes Radio’s new features

The new features on iTunes doesn’t end with music. Users can also create custom podcast stations that allow the podcasts to automatically update new episodes. The stations, subscriptions, and current play position will also sync over iCloud to the podcast application.

Still, the major highlight for iTunes 11.1 is iTunes Radio. There is a huge list of preset stations including iTunes Top 100: Alternative, Pure Pop, iTunes Festival: 2013 Shows, The Beatles Radio, Jazz Showcase, and more. There are also stations with celebrity guest DJs, including Katy Perry and Jared Leto (lead singer from 30 Seconds to Mars). The latter actually features the singers hosting the stations while mixing up their own music with similar songs. The real draw for iTunes Radio is the customizable stations, which allow users to select a certain artist, song, or album. It’s easy to fine-tune this station as users can add extra artists/band to one station and fine-tune this station for hits, variety, or discovery. If users dislike a certain artist or song, they can also add it to the ‘never play’ list. iTunes Radio could be a big hit.
