The invitation reads: “We still have a lot to cover,” implying that the company has even more to announce after its new iPhone 5s and 5c announcements in September. It is widely expected to use the event to detail its new iPads.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to unveil iPad 5?
Apple, as always, is remaining tight-lipped about the event, but that just adds fuel to the rumor mill. The Internet has been awash with leaked photos of the fifth generation iPad for a few weeks, and it’s almost a given that it will be introduced next week ahead of the holiday season.
The fifth generation iPad is rumored to boast a thinner and lighter design, as well as an improved camera, according to the AllThingsD report. It will also reportedly run Apple’s new 64-bit A7 chip.
A second generation iPad mini, featuring a retina display and the A7 chip, will also be announced at the event, the report claims.
In addition to the new chip, it’s believed that the new models will feature a thinner screen bezel, and that the microphone and speakers have been relocated.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) competition
The last few months have seen a bevy of new tablets, and Apple must catch up soon. Last month, Amazon released the newest versions of its Kindle Fire HDX, including an ultra HD version. Prior to that, Google released a remarkable reworking of its Nexus 7, which features a 1920 x 1200 resolution display. Microsoft’s new Surface 2 tablets are set to hit the stores the same day as Apple’s event. It’s difficult to picture many rushing out for those prior to Apple’s event in San Francisco.
It is also being rumored that Apple will speak about its newest operating system, OS X Mavericks, which promises longer battery life, a new version of Safari and improved notifications. Many sources are also suggesting that Apple will release new versions of its Macbook Pro line as well as a new Mac Pro desktop model.
We will have to wait and see what Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has in story.
