Amazon Is Releasing A New Alexa Gadget Named Echo Buttons

Updated on

The holidays are coming, and that implies many great holiday deals from Amazon are here to begin. Not only is Amazon announcing some of the top-notch deals, but the company is also releasing a new Alexa gadget named Echo Buttons that you will have fun with while playing party games with relatives and visiting friends. Amazon made sure to save you the trouble of having to break out yet another board game, though. With this gadget, you will have two super-simple controllers that you might use it for yourself or as a holiday gift for someone dear to you.

What are Echo Buttons?

A new member of the Amazon Echo family is coming, and it may be your favorite to date. First announced in September, these $19.99 accessories come in packs of two. Echo Buttons, how Amazon named these little buddies, are designed to offer physical interaction with other Echo devices. These are intended to be fun, as they are specifically used for playing family games with their voice-activated smart speakers.

The Echo Buttons are each about 3 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall and have a multi-color LED on top that illuminates the push button. Each Echo Button is powered by two triple-A batteries and connects to Echo speakers using Bluetooth.

According to Amazon, the buttons will work with four Alexa skills, including the name-that-song game “Fourth Down Football Trivia”, and “Beat the Intro”, with the support for more quiz and sound effect games expected in the future.

You won’t have to worry about using Echo Buttons with an older generation of Echo devices because these are compatible with all new and old Echo devices as well as the upcoming Echo Spot. However, note that these still don’t work with Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Tap, or any other non-Echo device.

Bottom line is that these small devices that come with a roughly puck-shaped size are meant to enhance Echo devices in a “fun and playful” way, with much more planned down the line.

The Echo Buttons will be released on December 19, 2017, and sold in two-packs for $19.99. You can pre-order the item right now.
