Super Mario Run: How To Bypass Jailbreak Detection

Updated on

Since its first announcement in September, Super Mario Run has been the center of attention, but imagine if you have the game but can’t play it. That’s what’s happening to some people, who can’t get the game to work on their iPhones and iPads. In many cases, the affected people have a jailbroken iOS device, and the built-in jailbreak detection prevents the game from running.

Super Mario Run‘s jailbreak detection

Over the past few years, it has become increasingly common for app/game developers to include jailbreak detection in their software. In fact, the company behind this Mario game also created Pokemon Go, and that too had detection built into it. This sanctioned malicious code will run in the background of the game when you launch it, run some checks on your device, and when a jailbreak is detected, prevent you from playing the game.

So this means that if you have rescued your handset or tablet from a life of Apple servitude, officially, you can’t sample the delight that is Super Mario Run. Nintendo, Niantic, and Apple have all conspired to deny you the open and rich experience of running and jumping. Fortunately, the jailbreak community is a smart and resourceful one, and just as it did for Pokemon Go, it has come up with a solution.

How to play Super Mario Run on a jailbroken device

Playing Mario’s latest adventure on a jailbroken iPhone or iPad involves downloading a tweak. This will enable your device to pass the jailbreak detection in the game and join the rest of the world in this latest running and jumping craze.

Before we begin the tutorial, you’re going to need tsProtector 8+ (iOS 9 & 9) created by typ0s2d10. This can be found using Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Although it is supposedly a paid tweak, there seems to be an unlimited free trial on it so just don’t pay. It’s unclear whether this is a bug or a mistake, but either way, you can get the tweak free (at least this is the case at the time I’m writing this) When you have the tweak, you are ready to bypass the Super Mario Run jailbreak detection. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Settings app on your Home screen.
  2. Look for the tsProtector tweak and tap it.
  3. On the next screen, tap on Black List Apps.
  4. Depending on your setup, you should see a list of apps or Super Mario Run on its own. Tap the toggle switch so that it turns green.

So you have now enabled your iPhone or iPad to bypass the game’s built-in jailbreak detection. The next thing to do would be to test it. We recommend that you reboot your device before doing so; however, on reboot, it should work.

If you have a jailbroken Apple device, it is likely that you’re running the iOS 9.3.3 solution, and that means when your device reboots, you have to re-jailbreak it. Unfortunately, this also means that you will have to retake the above steps, which, if you’re a Mario lover, is no big deal.
