On Thursday, Nintendo did something rather different; it launched its first runner game for iOS. You may already have it. So without further ado, here are the best Super Mario Run, cheats, tips, and tricks.
Super Mario Run on iOS
If you haven’t downloaded the game yet, you may be wondering what Super Mario Run is like. It was developed by Niantic, the same company behind Pokemon Go. It is landing first on iOS but will sometime soon be available to Android users too. What you shouldn’t expect is a full-fledged Mario world on your mobile. Instead, you get a runner-type game. You know the type; they’re ten-a-penny on both iOS and Android.
So if you haven’t got it yet, go to the App Store and get it free. However, there is an in-app purchase of $9.99, which will unlock the game’s full features. But if you just want to play the free game, the following tips, cheats, and tricks will help.
Jumping at the right time
While our description of the game as a “runner” does downplay the playability of it, we must say that Nintendo and Niantic have been able to add some complexity even though you play it with a single finger.
If you’ve played runner games before, the character auto-runs, and you tap the screen to invoke an action. However, this title is a little more complex, in that there are many different ways to touch the screen, all of which enable a different action, such as a higher jump or a spin. For example, tapping and holding and then swiping moves Mario back a bit.
Additionally, it is of real importance that you jump at the correct times. The main skill involved in the game is anticipation; this will enable you to jump and avoid obstacles.
Use pause blocks for planning
When moving through the game, you will at some point come across pause blocks. You will know when you have, as these are red blocks with the pause symbol clearly marked on them. As much as the game is about running, it is also about planning ahead, so you should use these pause blocks to rest and plan your next move.
Find the Challenge Coins
As with all previous Mario games, coins have a special purpose in Super Mario Run too. They’re called Challenge Coins in this game, and early in the game, they’re pink. Collecting them will earn you more points. However, the most important thing about them is that the more you have, the more you can brag about how good you are at the game.
Additionally, as you move through the levels, the coins will change color. Once you have five, they will change to purple, and then black and so on.
Not all characters are created equally
When setting up the game, you will more than likely choose your favorite character, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, choosing different characters will give you access to their abilities, meaning that those like Yoshi and Peach have different jump styles compared to Mario, and you will be able to get to places he just isn’t able to.
Use a mid-air spin to capture the flag
At the end of most Mario levels, there’s a flag to capture, and Super Mario Run is no different. You may already know that jumping to the top of the flag pole and grabbing the flag usually isn’t easy. However, in this game, it’s likely that you will be able to do so quite quickly. Where it gets even trickier is that when you jump off, you need to perform a long jump. To do that, tap and hold the screen. Then tap on the screen to spin in the air. This will enable your character to avoid any bad guys below and increase your chances of completing the level.
Find the bosses’ weaknesses
Every three levels, you will come up against a boss. To beat him/her, you need to find a weakness; to do so, look around the level for anything that can help and use it. For example, when you come up against Bowser, you will have to make the ax drop on the bridge when he’s on it.
Hit multiple blocks at once
One neat trick involves using your character to hit two blocks at the same time. To do so, line Mario or whoever you’re using up using timing and then make contact with two blocks in the center beneath them. If you do it right, sometimes you can be rewarded by receiving power-up mushrooms.
How to beat Boom Boom
Boom Boom is one of Bowser’s minions, and you will come up against him during the game. Unlike Bowser, he’s a little more mobile, so he’s a little trickier. One way to defeat him is to use Mario’s reverse wall jump. It enables him to get higher in the air, and landing on Boom Boom’s head a few times should defeat him.
Pay attention to opponents’ colors when playing Toad Rally
When you pick an opponent in the Toad Rally section of Super Mario Run, remember their color. Usually, the color is displayed with their username, and in the game, Toads are a kind of currency. You need them to buy things, and those of different colors enable the purchase of different things.
