The checkra1n jailbreak has been updated for iOS 13.3. Here are the details on the iOS 13.3 jailbreak release and how to perform the jailbreak for those who are just getting started with jailbreaking.

The iOS 13.3 jailbreak for checkra1n is version 0.9.7, and like the previous versions of the tool, it’s still in beta. Checkra1n had been compatible with iOS 13.2.3, and it didn’t take long to update it to work as an iOS 13.3 jailbreak.

The checkra1n tool has changed the face of jailbreaking by exploiting a vulnerability in the hardware rather than the software. However, the downside is that it only works with iOS devices with the A5 through A11 chips, which means this year’s and last year’s models aren’t supported.

Since checkra1n exploits the hardware, Apple can’t patch it, so the tool has made it much easier to jailbreak older iPhones. Jailbreakers don’t have to wait very long between iOS updates, unlike traditional jailbreaking, which only exploited software vulnerabilities.

Here’s what’s new in checkra1n 0.9.7

Here are the changes included in the iOS 13.3 jailbreak for A5 through A11 devices. Checkra1n 0.9.7 corrects a problem that kept the GUI from picking up on when the device mode changed. It also corrects a problem that caused the GUI to hang when attempting to jailbreak some iPads.

The iOS 13.3 jailbreak also adds support for the Apple TV 4K and purges over-the-air updates when the device boots. It also removes libimobiledevice as a dependency and can work correctly even when bootstrapping tvOS without an internet connection. The new checkra1n version also adds a shortcut for the tvOS loader app in the Control Center.

The checkra1n team also offered a solution to the -20 error, please rejailbreak with the no-substrate mode option checked. They said jailbreakers should try to remove their tweaks and see if the problem is solved.

They also warned that the Apple TV 4K will return a -20 error even if the jailbreak is successful.

How to jailbreak using the new checkra1n version

If you have an iPhone or iPad with an A5 through A11 chip, which does not include the iPhone XR, XS, 11 or 11 Pro, then you can install the iOS 13.3 jailbreak. You will also need a Mac because the tool doesn’t work with Windows or Linux yet. Versions for those operating systems may arrive soon.

Other requirements include the newer version of iTunes or Finder on macOS Catalina. You will also need the iOS 13.3 jailbreak files, which you can get here. Here’s the step-by-step process for jailbreaking with checkra1n 0.9.7:

  1. After downloading the checkra1n file, drag it into Applications.
  2. Connect the iPhone or iPad to the Mac
  3. Open checkra1n and click “Start now.”
  4. Click “Next” to be guided into DFU Mode and follow the instructions.
  5. After the device is in DFU Mode, it will finish jailbreaking and add the checkra1n app to the home screen.
  6. Open the checkra1n app from the home screen. Then go to Cydia > Install Cydia > Done.
