It’s been a rough start for Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Owners of both phones have experienced various bugs. Many people experienced an issue with the “burning-in” of the screen, although the vast majority of others have encountered a problem with the microphone and with slow charging. On the Google Product Forums, some users of the Pixel 2 XL have reported problems with the screen flashing when locking or unlocking the device. Still others have reported issues with Google Assistant not working on Bluetooth headphones with their Pixel 2 on Google’s support forum.
The issue with Google Assistant not working is not restricted to any particular model of headphones as owners of both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are experiencing it on many different brands. This issue has been going on since October. Still, Android Police decided to point it out now as the problem persists.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners noticed the problem when they tried to communicate with Google Assistant via the microphone while wearing Bluetooth headphones. Users can activate Google Assistant with ease, although the microphone mutes itself right after it’s activated, so they can’t communicate with it or ask any questions. While Google rolled out a new software update for Pixel phones, there’s no sign of a fix to the issue of Google Assistant not working on Bluetooth headphones with the Pixel 2 phones.
“The November software update for Pixel is rolling out starting today, and it will reach all devices over the next week. This update includes some of the enhancements we posted about on October 26, such as the new Saturated color mode for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, a fix for the faint clicking noise heard in some Pixel 2s, and other bug and security updates,” a community manager said on the Google Support forum.
While this is not a huge issue compared to the other problems Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners have experienced, it is not a good start for Google. The company’s aim is to encourage people to rely more on Google Assistant. However, that’s not possible right now. Early adopters are trying to use it, but they are unable to because of bugs. Moreover, as you may know, the Pixel Buds, which are special Google Assistant-enabled Bluetooth headphones, are going to start shipping soon. If the issue with Google Assistant not working on Bluetooth headphones on the Pixel 2 isn’t fixed, consumers won’t buy the earbuds.
