From Decarbonization To Energy Sustainability

"Eurizon's role in relation to decarbonization is undoubtedly active because we believe that the asset management industry can contribute to significantly accelerate this process by channeling capital towards business models in transition. A fundamental tool in this direction is investing in instruments such as Green Bonds aiming at financing projects with a positive environmental impact. In this direction in 2018 Eurizon created Eurizon Fund Absolute Green Bond, the first fund managed by an Italian asset manager specialized on green bonds. These include last week's first green bond issue from the European Union, which is of great importance for the market both in terms of quantity, with €12 billion of supply and an 11-fold demand, and because it is part of a €250 billion program equal to 30% of Next Generation EU."

Calvetti believes that this activity is an opportunity for the SGR "it helps us to better understand and carry out the fiduciary duty we have towards our clients. It also allows us to take constructive action towards the community through investments that pursue a positive environmental and/or social impact."

Finally, among the biggest challenges, Federica Calvetti highlights the regulatory aspects: "the first requirements of Regulation 2088 have come into force, but we are still waiting for the second level legislation that will have an impact on the definition of sustainable investment."
