Samsung was the world’s first company to launch a commercial 5G smartphone in the form of Galaxy S10 5G. It was soon followed by Chinese vendors Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi. When Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Mix 3 in October last year, it told fans that it would bring a 5G version of the device in 2019. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the company unveiled the Mi Mix 3 5G. It is one of the most affordable 5G phones out there.

Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 3 5G in Switzerland on May 2nd via Swiss carrier Sunrise, which offers 5G network coverage to more than 150 cities. The company will soon make it available in the rest of Europe and North America. If you are interested in buying a 5G phone, this Mi Mix 3 5G vs Galaxy S10 5G specs comparison would help you decide which one is a better buy.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G vs Galaxy S10 5G: Design

The 5G variant of Mi Mix 3 boasts a cool design. It has a nearly bezel-less design with no notch or hole-punch. It features a magnetic slider to accommodate the dual front cameras. Xiaomi claims the slider is good for more than 300,000 slides, which should easily last years. It measures 157.9 x 74.7 x 9.4 mm and comes in Sapphire Blue and Onyx Black color options.

Xiaomi has used a ceramic body on the device. The front glass and ceramic back are supported by a series 7000 aluminum frame. It has done away with the 3.5mm headphone jack. The device gets a vertically aligned dual camera setup and a circular fingerprint sensor on the back.

The Galaxy S10 5G’s design is the same as the standard Galaxy S10 models. It gets a nearly bezel-less and notch-less design with a hole-punch display to house the front cameras. It has two holes in the top right corner to accommodate the selfie cameras. It measures 162.6 x 77.1 x 7.9 mm and weighs 198g. The device retains the 3.5mm headphone jack. It is available in Majestic Black, Royal Gold, and Crown Silver colors.

The fingerprint sensor is placed under the display of S10 5G, allowing you to unlock the device by putting your finger on the screen. Samsung has used an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor rather than the optical one. The ultrasonic sensor is much more secure, fast and reliable. The front and rear glass panels are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6. There is an aluminum frame in the middle to support them. The S10 5G comes with an IP68 rating for water and dust-resistance.

Display

It boasts an impressive 93.4% screen-to-body ratio, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 403ppi of pixel density. The Galaxy S10 5G gets a larger 6.7-inch Curved Dynamic AMOLED display with Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3040 pixels. There are holes in the top right corner of the display, but they are not as annoying as the notch on Apple’s iPhone X. The giant screen offers an immersive experience when playing games or watching videos. It supports HDR10+ and Always-on Display technology.

While the S10 5G display has a Quad HD+ resolution, Samsung has set Full HD+ as default resolution. You can change the resolution from Settings though. It has a 19:9 aspect ratio, 89.4% screen-to-body ratio, and 502ppi of pixel density.

The main processor is paired with Adreno 640 GPU for graphics performance. The device packs 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. There is no microSD card slot, so you’d want to buy the higher storage model.

Price

Xiaomi’s phone is far more affordable than the Galaxy S10 5G. The Mi Mix 3 5G has gone on sale in Switzerland for CHF 847, which is equivalent to $830. It seems rather expensive, but that price could be specific to the Swiss market. Xiaomi said at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that the Mi Mix 3 5G would cost around €599 ($671) globally.

The Galaxy S10 5G is going to set you back by $1,300 in the US for the 256GB variant. The 512GB version is going to cost $1,400. Verizon has started taking pre-orders for the device in the US.
