Microsoft has sent a reminder to all the genuine Windows 7 and Windows 8 users that they have only until July 29th to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. If you haven’t upgraded to the latest OS, you should do it before that date. And if you don’t want to upgrade to Windows 10 at all, you would be happy to know that the annoying as hell upgrade notification will be disabled after July 29th.

Last year, Microsoft had said that the free upgrade offer was valid only for one year. The reminder signals that the company is in no mood to extend it. Reminding older Windows users that they have only about two months to upgrade for free may increase the adoption numbers. From July 30, Microsoft will start charging $119 for Windows 10 Home and $199 for the Pro version.
The Redmond-based software giant said in a blog post that Windows 10 now powers more than 300 million active devices. It has the fastest adoption rate of any Windows version, thanks to the limited time free upgrade offer. It has also been praised by critics and users alike. Microsoft aims to have Windows 10 running one billion devices by 2018. It would be interesting to see how the company manages to add 700 million users in two years, especially when it will require customers to cough up $119.
Anniversary Update coming this summer
Microsoft is scheduled to release the much-awaited Anniversary Update of Windows 10 this summer. The update will bring a redesigned Start Menu and a new handwriting recognition software. It will focus mainly on the education market, allowing teachers to configure their devices within minutes using the “Set Up School PCs” app. There will also be Windows Ink for enhanced stylus support. Those upgrading now will also get the upcoming Anniversary Update.
Experts suggest that it makes sense to upgrade to Windows 10 because it is safer than the older versions of Windows. If you don’t keep up with software updates, your device would become more vulnerable to hackers.
