The rumor mill has already been churning out plenty of stories about the Galaxy S11 and even the Note 11, both of which are expected to be released next year. However, one reputable leaker says not so fast. There may be no Galaxy S11 or Note 11 next year because Samsung could be preparing to merge the two smartphone lines and eliminate both brand names.

New rumor says no Galaxy S11

Evan Blass tweeted that there may be no Galaxy S11 or Note 11, and he said that change “could manifest in different ways.” One suggestion is that the phone which launches earlier in the year could be called the Galaxy One. Supposedly, the smartphone might be “an S-series with an S-Pen.” This could make sense since it’s gotten pretty difficult to differentiate between the two smartphone lines. The biggest differentiator is the S-Pen, so hopefully Samsung doesn’t do away with that.

Blass also said Samsung might launch the new Galaxy Fold models next year during the Note 11’s traditional launch window. Of course, it might depend on how well the Galaxy Fold does when it relaunches later this year. Reviewers have their hands on the redesigned Fold now, and so far, it sounds like Samsung has fixed the biggest issues with it.

Blass’ source also described the possibility that there will be no Galaxy S11 or Note 11 as “still being very fluid and tentative at this stage.” In other words, Samsung hasn’t made any firm decisions yet. Given that the S11’s usual launch window is coming up in less than six months, it seems unlikely that this change will happen in 2020. However, this isn’t the first time we have heard something like this, so Samsung may just be deciding on when to do it rather than whether or not to do it at all.

Previous S11 rumors

Before the rumor about there being no Galaxy S11 or Note 11, we already heard plenty of rumors about Samsung’s next major flagship device. Just days ago, we heard about possible color options for the S11, which could include blue, pink, black and white. The rumor also suggested that Samsung might attach the “Aura” name to the S11 colors like it did with the Note 10. The Aura Glow Note 11 has apparently been quite popular with buyers.

Over the summer, a rumor suggested that the S11 could get a major upgrade in the RAM department. Next year’s model could have up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 Mobile DRAM, which is extremely fast and used only in premium smartphones. Samsung estimates that the LPDDR5 Mobile DRAM is up to 1.3 times faster than the RAM that’s currently used in most premium devices.

Other rumors about the S11 include storage options of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, which would increase the number of storage options available in the Note 10 by two. Major camera upgrades are also improved, including a feature that has never been seen before, although it’s unclear what that feature might be.
