Pokemon Go Tips: How To Evolve Eevee Into Espeon And Umbreon

Updated on

Thanks to the recent Pokemon Go update, developer of the game Niantic has made available 80 new creatures for you to search for. Included among these new additions is Eevee, and in this article, we’re going to share with you some Pokemon Go tips.

Pokemon Go Tips

If you didn’t already now, Eevee is capable of evolving into Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. However, this latest Niantic update included two new forms the creature can evolve into called Espeon and Umbreon. And if the need takes you, both additions are available to collect right now! But, Niantic doesn’t want this to be easy for you. So, going down their route may take you some time. Fortunately, if patience isn’t something you have when it comes to playing Pokemon Go, we have a solution.

Eevee Evolution Tip

According to those who know, and gamers everywhere, it’s possible to influence the Pokémon your Eevee evolves into by renaming them as characters from the TV series. Previously, this has worked to make the character change to the before mentioned Pokemon.

How did this work?

Put simply you had to change names using the options below to get specific Pokemon:

1. To evolve into Flareon, you have to change Eevee’s name to Pyro.
2. Use Sparky to evolve into Jolteon
3. Rename as Rainer to get Vaporeon

As for the latest name change additions which enable evolution into a specific Pokemon, they are:

1. To evolve Eevee into Espeon use the name Sakura
2. Finally, to evolve into Umbreon rename to Tamao

Alternative Method

According to some Reddit users, Umbreon and Espeon also can be evolved into using another method. Apparently, it uses the Buddy System and includes walking 10km, and evolving Eevee during the night or day. Now, it appears that the renaming tip above will only work once per evolution type. So, this is a useful way to get a second Espeon or Umbreon.

Final Thoughts

While many Pokemon Go players have had a positive experience using the renaming method, some have not. In fact, at Comic-con Niantic confirmed that some users have tried to use the method and it has not worked. As for why? The developer failed to give a reason, but it could be the trick will only work on the first time. Meaning the first time a creature is evolved.

However, it has also been suggested that renaming fails could be due to server issues! So, wherever you’re good luck and just remember that for the majority this will work!
