Rumors about futuristic gaming consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two are in full-swing. Now that the existing PS4 and Xbox One are more than two years old, gaming enthusiasts are looking forward to the next-generation consoles. So, which of the two consoles is going to release ahead of the other? Recently, AMD CEO Lisa Su said gaming consoles have a shelf life of five to seven years. So, we shouldn’t expect the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Two to arrive this year.
Gamers can fully expect Xbox Two
Despite plenty of rumors, there is no official confirmation about PlayStation 5 from Sony. The Japanese manufacturer hasn’t even confirmed the existence of such a console. But a job posting that was later removed by Sony last year indicated that the company was hiring game developers for what it called the “next-generation gaming system.” Rumors claim that the PlayStation 5 is still in the early stages of development.
In contrast, Microsoft’s Xbox boss Phil Spencer has confirmed that the company was working on a future generation of gaming console. Gamers can “fully expect” the Xbox Two, he told The Verge. Spencer’s comments suggest that the Redmond-based company is ahead of Sony in developing its console, and may launch it before the PlayStation 5. But it is too early to estimate the release date of either console.
Sony to launch two versions of PlayStation 5?
Both consoles are expected to bring futuristic technologies. Latest rumors suggest that Sony may launch two versions of PlayStation 5 to cater to a wider gaming market. The first version is said to feature 4K Ultra Blu-Ray with a disk drive, providing gamers with enhanced graphic experience. The second model might have SSD storage, and it could be dedicated only to digital titles.
Sony is also expected to incorporate virtual reality in PlayStation 5. Other expected features include integration with Facebook and Twitter, and wireless charging. Paul Ross, director of technology at Criterion, said earlier this month that the PS5 would offer “far more dynamic, interactive, and believable” experience. Microsoft’s Xbox Two is also rumored to boast of 4K and virtual reality. Given its expertise in cloud and software, Microsoft may turn to cloud computing for Xbox Two.
