The much-awaited OnePlus 7 smartphone will go official in a couple of months. Leaked specs and renders of the device have already been flooding the Internet, dropping hints of exciting new features such as a fully bezel-less display and a pop-up camera. The Chinese company has built a reputation for offering premium specs at mid-range prices. The upcoming flagship will compete with the likes of iPhone XS and Samsung Galaxy S10. In this OnePlus 7 rumor roundup, we are going to look at the rumored specs, features, price, and other details.

All the details from the OnePlus 7 rumor mill

OnePlus has already confirmed that the OnePlus 7 would not offer 5G support. The company will launch a separate 5G-equipped smartphone later this year.

OnePlus 7 design

The upcoming flagship is going to look a lot different from the current OnePlus 6T. The Chinese company introduced a wide display notch with the OnePlus 6 and reduced it to a tiny waterdrop notch on the OnePlus 6T. The company continues to push for a fully bezel-less design. According to multiple leaks, OnePlus 7 is going to ditch the display notch completely.

Renders shared by reliable tipster Steve H.McFly and Pricebaba.com suggest that OnePlus will opt for a pop-up selfie camera to make room for a bezel-less display. The pop-up selfie camera would be similar to the ones on Oppo F11 Pro and Vivo Nex. The pop-up mechanism would house a single lens, meaning the device will have only a single selfie camera.

The device will have a triple camera system on the back panel. GizmoChina has shared pictures of OnePlus 7 back covers that confirm the device would feature a vertically-aligned triple camera setup along with an LED flash. The phone won’t have the 3.5mm headphone jack. It features the power button and alert slider on the right side while volume rockers are on the left. The microphone, speaker grille, and USB-C port are placed at the bottom.

According to Pricebaba.com, the OnePlus 7 would measure 162.6 x 76 x 8.8mm, but the thickness will be 9.7mm on the camera bump.

What about the display?

Thanks to the pop-up selfie camera, OnePlus 7 will have a nearly bezel-less display. According to Pricebaba.com, the phone would sport a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display. The device is said to have a screen-to-body ratio of 95%, which is much higher than 83% for iPhone XS and 84.4% for the iPhone XS Max. The OnePlus 7 rumor mill claims the display will be curved on the edges similar to Samsung’s flagship phones.

The fingerprint sensor will be integrated under the display. It’s unclear whether OnePlus will stick to the optical fingerprint sensor or switch to the more advanced and secure ultrasonic sensors that we have seen on the Samsung Galaxy S10. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensors are blazing fast and they are extremely difficult to fool. Also, they work even when your fingers are wet or dirty.

OnePlus 7 camera

As revealed by the renders and back covers, the phone will have three camera lenses on the back and a single lens for selfies. The triple camera system is said to consist of a 48MP primary sensor, a 20-megapixel secondary lens for low-light photography, and a 5MP depth sensor for bokeh effects. The pop-up selfie camera will be 16-megapixel. Its smartphones are among the best in terms of photography. OnePlus will further enhance the photography experience via software.

OnePlus 7 hardware specs

Flagship OnePlus models are among the most powerful Android devices on the market, so you can expect nothing but the best from OnePlus 7. Steve H.McFly recently leaked the OnePlus 7 specs based on a Giztop listing. The phone is going to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor and at least 6GB of RAM and 128GB of base storage. There could also be a 10GB RAM variant with 256GB of internal storage.

The upcoming OnePlus flagship will run Android 9 Pie software with OxygenOS skin on top. According to recent reports, it will be the first OnePlus smartphone to support HDR streaming. Currently, streaming services like Netflix don’t support HDR on OnePlus devices.

Though its back panel will be made out of glass, it won’t support wireless charging. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed at the Mobile World Congress last month that the company doesn’t feel the need for wireless charging. Anyway, the phone is going to pack a giant 4,000mAh battery. OnePlus could add support for 30W Warp Charge fast charging, which was introduced with the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition.

True wireless earbuds

The Chinese company could launch true wireless earbuds with OnePlus 7, which would lack the 3.5mm headphone jack. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently hinted at wireless earbuds that could compete with Apple’s AirPods and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds. Lau said the company was working to ‘polish’ its wireless headset experience. It could be an improved version of the Bullets Wireless earbuds launched last year.

OnePlus 7 price and release date

The OnePlus phones cost a lot less than the flagship iPhones and Samsung Galaxy S handsets, but the Chinese company has been increasing prices with each successive model. According to CNet, OnePlus has one of the highest increases in price from model to model. According to Twitter tipster Steve H.McFly, the base model of OnePlus 7 is going to cost $569. By comparison, the current OnePlus 6T costs $549 for the base model and $629 for the 8GB RAM variant. Even at this price, the OnePlus 7 would cost only half as much as the iPhone XS Max.

OnePlus hasn’t mentioned when it’s going to release its next flagship. But historically, the company has refreshed its flagship line in May or June. So, we expect the new model to arrive in the second quarter of this year. Hopefully, the OnePlus 7 rumor mill will leak the official release date even before the company sends out press invites.
