If you were disappointed by the lack of a removable battery and microSD slot in Samsung’s newest Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the company may have something in store for you. A new report claims that the upcoming Galaxy S6 Active will feature a microSD slot that will support expandable storage and a removable battery. What’s more, the Active phone will also have protective features like water and dust resistance.
Galaxy S6 Active won’t have the fingerprint sensor
The report comes from Reddit user Garshol. The Reddit user had a meeting with a Samsung representative in the European region. Garshol learned from the rep that Samsung will include microSD slot and an easily removable battery in the Galaxy S6 Active. But there will be certain trade-offs. The Active model focuses on users with a more rugged lifestyle. So, it can handle drops, dust and water.
The Samsung representative said that the Galaxy S6 Active will have a lesser quality camera. The handset might forgo the use of a heart rate sensor. Garshol says that the Active will also be giving up the fingerprint sensor. Adding microSD in Active seems a bit odd. That’s because Samsung has said the primary reason the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge came without an SD card was the slower memory compared to the Korean company’s newer UFS 2.0.
Galaxy S6 Active to pack a 3500mAh battery
The Samsung representative said the Active model will hit the stores in mid-summer. Note that Garshol and the Samsung rep are both based in Europe, so the mid-summer time frame may be for the European market. Earlier this month, the Galaxy S6 Active was spotted on the Korean electronics giant’s official User Agent profile page.
In the U.S., AT&T will reportedly be the first telecom carrier to offer the Galaxy S6 Active. A recent report from SamMobile claims that Active will feature a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, 3GB RAM, Exynos 7420 processor, and 32GB internal storage. But it will have a huge 3,500mAh battery compared to just 2550mAh in the S6 and 2600mAh in the S6 Edge.
