Samsung’s much-awaited Galaxy Note 5 is just a few months away. Leaks and rumors about the upcoming phablet are in full swing. Even though a Samsung executive had offered hints earlier this year that the company would launch a dual-edge Galaxy Note 5, a new report claims otherwise. Maybe the Korean electronics giant was initially considering going ahead with the dual-edge Note 5, but has dropped the plan.

Galaxy Note 5 will stand alone

Chinese website QQ.com has learned from its sources that there will be no Edge variant of the Galaxy Note 5. Last year, Samsung surprised the markets by launching a niche Galaxy Note Edge with a curved screen. The company took it a step further with the launch of dual-edge Galaxy S6 Edge. But the Galaxy Note 5 will stand alone.

It doesn’t mean Samsung will not launch a new dual-edge smartphone this year. It will reportedly bring Galaxy S6 Plus with curves on both sides of the screen. The S6 Plus will lack an S Pen stylus. The Galaxy Note Edge wasn’t very popular, but the Galaxy S6 Edge has tasted success. It’s likely that Samsung would launch a bigger screen version of the S6 Edge to capitalize on its popularity.

Galaxy Note 5 to have a huge 4100mAh battery

Meanwhile, QQ.com has also revealed the key specs and features of the Galaxy Note 5. The publication said Samsung’s upcoming phablet will feature a 5.89-inch quad HD display, an improved S Pen stylus, and a huge 4,100mAh battery. The Galaxy Note 5 Samsung is currently testing runs TouchWiz on top of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The phablet will be 7.9mm thick.

The website adds that the Note 5 will feature wireless charging, a non-removable battery, but no expandable storage. It will be powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7422 all-in-one chipset that combines RAM, CPU, GPU, memory, and modem on a single chip. It will support the new USB Type-C port with reversible charging and faster data transfer.

The Galaxy Note 5 is widely expected to be unveiled at the annual IFA event in September.
