Apple Inc. (AAPL) has just revealed the long-rumored iPad Mini with Retina Display at its big media event today. The leaks we’ve seen regarding this device have been pretty accurate.
Retina display may be the iPad Mini’s best feature
The resolution of the iPad Mini’s new display is 2048 x 1536, and it has the same A7 64-bit processor the full-size iPad and iPhone 5S have. The fact that it’s the same processor means it should be just as fast as its big brother, the new iPad Air. The size of the display is still 7.9 inches. The new iPad Mini also has expanded support for LTE, 10 hours of battery life and a 5-megapixel iSight rear camera. There is also a 1080p FaceTime camera on the front of the new iPad Mini.
The overall design of the tablet looks pretty much the same, but BGR reports that the best thing about the new device is its Retina display. Some analysts have said that the iPad Mini wouldn’t get a Retina display because of production problems, but Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been able to deliver it this year anyway.
Some have speculated that the iPad Mini would get the fingerprint sensor that’s in the iPhone 5S, but this is one expectation Apple did not deliver on.
Apple’s iPad Mini available next month
The new tablet goes on sale in November for $399 with Wi-Fi capabilities or $529 with mobile data capabilities. Like the iPad Air, it will be available in two color combinations: white and silver or black and space gray.
Along with the new iPads, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) also showed off some colorful new iPad colors which will sell for $39. There’s also a leather case for the iPad Mini which will retail for $79 and be available in a variety of different colors.
CEO Tim Cook wrapped up his comments by saying they were proud of both new iPads.
