Apple is holding a big event tomorrow, where it is expected to announce several new products. For the first time, Apple is expected to announce three new iPhones, a new iPad and a new Apple Watch. Thus, the products we can expect to see tomorrow are the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Plus, iPhone 9, iPad Pro 3 and Apple Watch 4. There could be a few more as well, but we will just have to wait and see.
What to expect from the iPad Pro 3
If you are an iPhone fan, you may have already a heard a lot about the new iPhones, so first let’s talk about the other important products that can be expected at the event tomorrow.
Though Apple released a new iPad earlier this year, it has yet to launch a new version of the iPad Pro. It is speculated that Apple will use the iPhone event to introduce new 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro models. Though details about the new iPad Pro are scant, it can be presumed to feature a newer and faster processor.
Based on code inside iOS 12, it is believed that the new iPad Pro will ditch the home button, something Apple will also probably do with the new iPhones. Thus, the new iPad Pro will likely also support Face ID, allowing Apple to add more screen. Leaked renderings of the new iPad Pro also show an edge-to-edge display with minimal bezels. According to those renderings, there is no headphone jack either, but there is a mystery button below the volume keys.
Additionally, trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims the iPad Pro 3 will also ditch the Lightning connector and instead use a standard USB-C port, reported MacRumors. The analyst also reportedly said Apple would ship the iPad with an 18W power adaptor.
“In addition to Face ID support, we expect the new iPad Pro models’ main upgrade to include replacing Lightning with a USB-C interface and bundling with a new unibody design 18W power adapter, which cancels the removable plug design,” said Kuo in his latest predictions for the iPhone 9, iPad Pro 3 and Apple Watch 4.
Apple Watch 4 to be bigger and faster
The company is also expected to unveil two variants of the Apple Watch with a comparatively bigger screen than the earlier models. A bigger display would show more information and should make it easier to read smaller words. The 42mm Apple Watch Series 4 is rumored to have a resolution of 384 x 480 pixels, up from 312 x 390 pixels in the previous 42mm variants.
Kuo also believes the next-gen Apple Watch will come with a 15% larger display and a bigger battery as well. The iPhone maker is also expected to add new health monitoring sensors to the watch, but what those would be is not known now. However, according to Kuo, the new Apple Watch will feature ECG/ EKG functionality. Apple has reportedly selected Osram as the ECG supplier.
With the Apple Watch 4, users will also get WatchOS 5, which will support the older models as well. WatchOS 5 will likely come with automatic workout tracking, more Siri features, a walkie-talkie feature for calling other Apple Watches, new workout competitions, support for podcasts and more.
The new Apple Watch models may get ceramic backs, unlike the composite glass back panel used on the GPS-only Apple Watch Series 3. Further, leaked renderings reveal a hole between the side button and the digital crown, possibly to fit an extra microphone for better noise cancellation.
There is also talk that the Apple Watch 4 will support 64-bit graphics. Apple has already transitioned the iPhone, iPad and Mac processors to 64-bit software. iOS no longer supports 32-bit software, and macOS will stop supporting it next year. The Apple Watch S3 processor is still 32-bit, but this might change with the Apple Watch 4. The new watch models could get the new S4 SiP (system in package), which will likely give the Apple Watch Series 4 a performance boost.
Is iPhone 9 facing production issues?
Now coming to the iPhone, almost everyone knows Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones this time: one with a 5.8-inch display, which will be the iPhone X successor; the second with a 6.5-inch screen, and a third more affordable variant with a 6.1-inch screen. Though there is still some confusion about the names of the new iPhones, it is largely believed that the 5.8-inch model will be the iPhone XS, the 6.5-inch variant will be the iPhone XS Max or XS Plus, and the 6.1-inch will be the iPhone XC or iPhone 9.
It has been reported that the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch models will feature OLED displays, while the 6.1-inch iPhone will have an LCD. In his recent note, Kuo said the launch of the LCD model has been postponed to late September or early October due to “quality issues with the assembly and display.”
Further, according to Kuo, the 6.1-inch iPhone will cost $600. The handset is expected to feature the same A12 processor as the OLED models, but with less RAM, a single-lens camera system, smaller storage options, a smaller battery, and a lower-resolution screen. It will likely be available in five colors: gray, red, white, blue and orange.
The other two models — the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max — are expected to feature stainless steel frames and 12-megapixel dual-lens cameras. They will likely come in three color options: black, white and gold. According to Kuo, the smaller version will start at $800, while the Plus variant will start at $900.
It must be noted that nothing has been confirmed by Apple yet, not even the existence of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Plus, iPhone 9, iPad Pro 3 and Apple Watch 4. However, we will not have to wait much longer to find out what’s coming and with what features, as Apple’s much-anticipated event is just hours away now.
