Microsoft is further expanding the Xbox One backward compatibility list with five more games. The list now includes four games from the Lost Planet series along with one Resident Evil game, as announced by Microsoft’s Major Nelson on Twitter.

Microsoft expands Xbox One backward compatibility list

Xbox One backward compatibility list gets all three mainline Lost Planet games – Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Lost Planet 2, and Lost Planet 3. Also, the gold edition of the first Lost Planet series – Lost Planet: Colonies – has been added. The Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, which was initially released with Dreamcast, is now backward compatible as well.

The Lost Planet Series, published by Capcom, is based on the hardships faced by the protagonists that live on a planet that is in the midst of an ice age. Each game in the series depicts survival in an unfriendly environment along with the fight with alien creatures.

The Lost Planet is a third-person shooter series, and was originally released by Capcom in 2005. In 2006, the developer came up with Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, which was an Xbox 360 exclusive. The Lost Planet 2, which came out in 2010, was not an Xbox exclusive and the same was the case with Lost Planet 3 in 2013.

The Resident Evil Code: Veronica X follows the events of Resident Evil 2. The game, which was released by Capcom on Xbox 360 in 2011, continues the series’ survival horror gameplay.

To play these games on the Xbox One, you must have their physical Xbox 360 copy or you can buy the digital version of the game from the Xbox Live marketplace. The Resident Evil Code: Veronica X for the Xbox 360 is priced at $19.99, while each of the Lost Planet games cost $19.99 on the Xbox Games Store.

Xbox One backward compatibility – all you need to know

Xbox One backward compatibility is the ability of the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X to play the games originally made for the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox. The Xbox 360 was released in 2005, while the first Xbox came out in 2002.

Xbox One backward compatibility supports hundreds of classic games. You can play these games if you have their physical copy or download it from the Microsoft Store. Some of the backward compatible games may even look better on the Xbox One as the console is much more powerful than the Xbox 360.

“Selected Xbox 360 games are Xbox One X Enhanced, leveraging the additional power of the console for higher resolution, 9 times the original pixel count, and expanded color details,” Microsoft says.

Though the Xbox One backward compatibility list includes hundreds of games, some of the most popular titles are: Mass Effect 2/3, The Orange Box, Dark Souls, Gears of War, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, Borderlands, Final Fantasy XIII, GTA IV, Assassin’s Creed Series, Halo, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock and the latest five games.

New games added to Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft, earlier this week, announced four new games under the Xbox Game Pass offerings for February. These games are in addition to the already announced slate of Xbox Game Pass offerings for the month. The new games will be available before the end of the month and include titles like Alien: Isolation and Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.

As part of the new announcement, the Xbox Game Pass subscribers got Headlander and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two on Thursday. In addition, the subscribers also got the previously announced Batman: Return to Arkham on Thursday (Feb. 21).

Next week, i.e. on Feb. 28, subscribers will get to play The Walking Dead and Alien: Isolation. Other previously announced games added to the service this month include Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Pumped BMX Pro, De Blob and Crackdown 3.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service offers a selection of titles for just $10 per month. Moreover, the service offers all first-party games on the day of release itself. For example, Crackdown 3 was made available to the subscribers this month itself. Games under the Xbox Game Pass are playable as long as you remain subscribed to the service.

You can view the full list of games available on the Game Pass on the Xbox website.
