Xbox One Backward Compatible Program Gets Three More Games

Updated on

Microsoft continues to expand the Xbox One’s backward compatible catalog with the addition of three more games this month. On Thursday, Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (also known by his gamertag Major Nelson) tweeted that they’re adding Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Darksiders, and Darksiders II.

Growing backward compatible catalog for Xbox One

“Darksiders, Darksiders II and Assassin’s Creed Revelations are coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today,” he tweeted on Thursday. Before his tweet, there was a leak about both Darksiders and Assassin’s Creed Revelations being the two Xbox 360 games available to Xbox Live Subscribers as part of the April 2017 Gold lineup.

If you have these games for the Xbox 360, they will automatically show up in your Xbox One game library as well. If you do not own them, you can buy them through the Xbox Store website or on your Xbox One.

In 2016, games like the Bioshock Trilogy, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Red Dead Redemption and the Mass Effect Trilogy joined the Xbox One’s ever-expanding library. There are more than 320 games in the console’s backward compatible library.

No word on Black Ops II

There is no news about when the much-requested Call of Duty: Black Ops II will join the list of backward compatible games. Though Xbox boss Phil Spencer teased future backward compatible games, he said nothing about this game, notes GamespotBlack Ops II is by far the most-requested game for backward compatibility, with over 215,000 votes on the Xbox Feedback website.

“One of my most anticipated is coming in the next few weeks, some good ones tee’d up. <no comment on BO2>,” Spencer tweeted on Thursday.

Last year, Spencer addressed fans, saying that the team sees the daily requests and knows very well that gamers are very passionate about this game.

Gold lineup for April

Microsoft also announced that the Gold lineup for April include games from several major franchises alongside an Xbox One launch title. On Xbox One, the Crytek’s Ryse: Son of Rome will be free all month. Another major game being added to the console is The Walking Dead: Season Two (five episodes), which will be free from April 16 to May 15.

As for Xbox 360, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can get a free copy of the original Darksiders between April 1 and April 15. During the second half of the month, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – the final entry in the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Trilogy – will be free.
