Workers in the nation’s capitol have been told to “shelter in place” after reports of gunshots at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center on Monday.
While the Capitol Police spokeswomen declined to comment further, she did say that she would be issuing a statement shortly.

The BBC is reporting that a gunman has been captured and that a police officer was shot and is being treated for his injuries at a local hospital. The BBC has said repeatedly that the officer’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
This reporting has been confirmed by NBC News website.
“Shooter has been caught,” the Capitol’s Sergeant At Arms reported. “One police officer shot, but not seriously.”

In addition to increased security at the Capitol Building and the White House, the U.S Supreme Court, located across the street from the Capitol, briefly locked its doors and barring entry and egress.
The court, however, was reopened to visitors by 3PM.

A news conference is set to begin within a few minutes to give the public a better understanding of what occurred today.
It’s now being reported that the U.S. Capitol police shot a male suspect after he pulled out a gun at the the Capitol Visitor Center.
In addition to the shooting of the suspect who pulled out the gun when he was stopped by a metal detector, a female bystander was injured by “shrapnel.”
