Was What Congressman Paul Gosar Did OK?

Censuring Paul Gosar

Was that just a joke? Did some Democrat do something even worse decades ago? Did Gosar’s actions merit censuring him, rather than just letting him off with a slap on the wrist?

What is utterly amazing is that all but two Republican Congress members voted against censuring Gosar. Isn’t that like saying, “This kind of behavior is OK?” One would think that even the most rabidly radical Republican members of Congress know in their hearts that this behavior is not OK.

Please consider this analogy: Your teenage daughter has just left on a first date with a boy whom you never met before. You then check out his Facebook page and find an animated video of him killing your daughter. Are you OK with that?

Clearly, Paul Gosar is physically ill. For several years his left hand has been shaking uncontrollably, and when he speaks, his head movements resemble those of a bobble doll. Still, his mental condition is much more disturbing.

Of course, he is not alone in that regard. Many of his Republican colleagues also display varying degrees of mental illness.

Gosar may not even be legally responsible for his extremely disturbing behavior. Perhaps he should even be institutionalized.

On the other hand, if we were to release a couple of hundred very disturbed mental patients to replace Paul Gosar, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert and nearly all the rest of the Republican Congressional Conference, not only would we have a better-run House, but perhaps a more mentally stable one as well.
