As recently as a few days ago the World was made aware of upcoming changes to YouTube for the web however. However, we’ve now been made aware of another upcoming change, which sees the introduction of YouTube Autoplay for the Android version of the site.

You may be asking yourself, what does it do? Well put simply it will now automatically autoplay the next related song, news piece, documentary or whatever it is you are watching.

Here’s how to turn off YouTube Autoplay

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of the Android app installed.
You can do this by clicking on GooglePlay in your smartphone and searching for the YouTube app.
  2. If you see the option to update click it and wait for the update to complete.
  3. Once updated open the app and navigate to a video it doesn’t matter what it is.
  4. Now that you have the video playing, look below it to the right and you will see the word Autoplay with a blue icon next to it.
  5. 5. Switch it over to the off position. Once set to off it turns to grey.

And that is it, you’re now free to choose what video to which when your current one finishes. However, if you’re feeling a little adventurous you could always switch YouTube Autoplay back on to see if it can serve you with something of interest, you know something interesting new.

YouTube AutoPlay Popularity

As surprising as it may seem the Youtube Autoplay feature for YouTube in general is not a new one. It has been a feature of the desktop, PS3 and Xbox One versions for some time now much to the dislike of many a user.

The good news however, is that Google has listened to its users and made the disabling of this feature really easy to do (as you’ve just seen). And once you switch it to off it should stay that way although some desktop users have reported that it sometimes reverts back to the on position without them realizing until it’s too late.

I wonder however, if the console version of YouTube enables the switching off, of Autoplay? I am not sure if it does, but that is a topic for another time maybe.
