GoPro’s cameras are very small, which is one of their unique selling points as it allows buyers to carry it along wherever they go, and they can easily slip them inside their pockets when not in use. Also the cameras can be easily attached to all kinds of things, and people seeking more creativity when shooting photos or videos can attach the Birdie accessory, which flips them up into the air, notes Ubergizmo.
Also protects your GoPro
Earlier this year, the Birdie was launched on Indiegogo, and it soon raised funds to turn it into a reality. The accessory makes it possible for users to toss a GoPro camera into the air and capture some interesting photos that aren’t possible otherwise. This is possible because of Birdie’s peculiar shuttlecock-like shape and safety cone.
The Birdie is aerodynamic and can easily float in water. These features relieve buyers of the fear of dropping the camera into a lake/pool and then diving in to search it out. The accessory is interesting and kind of niche as well because everyone wants to capture photos in this manner, says Ubergizmo.
However, the Birdie does not offer complete protection to GoPro from impact. Hence, it won’t survive if someone tosses it off a mountain or accidentally drops it from one. However, its design is such that it helps it fall slightly slower, and hence, it can be easily caught by the owner before it hits the ground.
Birdie a better option than a drone
A GoPro action camera user will be able to capture the best aerial footage when they use the camera with a drone. But the problem is that they are too expensive and require proper training for safe operation. Also newly-enacted regulations have discouraged many would-be buyers, notes Slashgear.
Compared to an entry-level drone, a Birdie is 5-10 times cheaper, so even people with constrained budgets can fulfill their dream of aerial photography. The accessory is priced at $49 and is expected to become available on Amazon beginning October 24.
The Birdie kit has one base with a bumper, one fabric bag and six arms joined together with a fabric strip. The accessory supports only the GoPro Hero 3 and 4 for now. Some other action cams with the same housing as the GoPro Hero 3 and 4 may work as well, but they haven’t been tested yet.
