Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is planning to unveil a Supercharger station in the Northeast Ohio region on Thursday, says a report from News Net 5. Tesla is planning to build a supercharger station at the Macedonia Commons shopping center near Interstate 271.

Location offers restaurants and other amenities

Though the company does not have any stores north of Columbus, it will still open the charging station. The electronic vehicle maker has already built charging stations in the city of Cleveland and the Northeast Ohio area.

News Channel 5 got an email from one of the members of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) that New Macedonia is amongst the few locations that Tesla has included in its cross-country route to allow free travel from LA to New York City.

Patrick Jones said in the email, “You will not find Supercharges in city centres because Model S drivers get 265 miles of range on a full charge. They won’t need to use this Supercharges for daily commuting purposes.” At present, the Model S is the most popular vehicle from Tesla.

The company zeroed in on Macedonia due to a number of restaurants and other amenities the city has, which could be utilized by the car owners while their car is charging. Only Tesla cars can be charged on these stations.

Tesla spreading Supercharger network

At present, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has two stores in Columbus and Cincinnati. According to Jones, Tesla would open a service center in Cleveland in the near future.

Tesla revealed that it is planning to spread a countrywide network for Superchargers, which would allow Tesla owners to drive through long distances comfortably. There is already a station network in the California/Nevada area on the West Coast and in the Washington D.C. / Boston area on the East Coast.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) achieved its target of connecting coast-to-coast this winter, and now it seeks to build more charging stations to reach 80% of the US population by the end of this fiscal and 98% of the country by the end of 2015.

Since last week, Tesla unveiled seven new Superchargers. So far, 81 Superchargers in the U.S. and Europe have provided more than 7 million miles of Model S travel.
