Tesla Motors Inc (NADAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk may be getting a lot done, but employees aren’t overly found of him. In fact, he has a lower employee approval rating than Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Tim Cook. But he’s still doing better than JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Steve Ballmer.

Tesla’s Musk a leader for CEO of the Year

Lydia DePillis of The Washington Post took a look at the employee approval ratings for some of the top CEOs in the U.S. on GlassDoor.com Although DePillis didn’t post Musk’s rating, Tom Bemis of the Tell, a contributor to MarketWatch, did look it up on GlassDoor.com. He reports that Musk has an approval rating of 83%.

He also notes that the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO is one of the top candidates for MarketWatch’s CEO of the Year award.

Other well-known CEOs also ranked

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer is pretty far down on the list. Only 47% of employees approve of him. Another CEO whose low ranking is no surprise is Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) CEO Mike Duke, who only received a 48% rating. With the number of lawsuits employees file against the big box retailer, it’s a surprise his rating isn’t even lower.

At the top end of the approval ratings, we have Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) CEO Mark Zuckerberg with an astonishing 97% and Twitter Inc (TWTR)’s Dic Costolo with 96%. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) CEO Larry Page received a 95% rating, while Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Tim Cook received a 92% approval rating. It’s worth noting that Cook’s approval rating has fallen over the years from a peak of 97% in 2011—the same rating as Steve Jobs toward the end of his career.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has an 87% approval rating. JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon received a somewhat generous 78% rating in spite of all the legal problems the bank has had over the last few years.
