The official launch of Tesla’s much-awaited SUV crossover Model X is just a few weeks away. Earlier this month, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk told investors that the new vehicle would arrive by the end of September. In a few days, Tesla is expected to make available a configuration tool on its website that would allow potential buyers to choose interior features, color options, and performance characteristics for their Model X.

Tesla expected to hold a massive event for Model X launch

Over the past few months, a number of Model X test mules have been captured in photos and videos. Now three more images of the SUV have surfaced online that show its curves better than photos we have seen earlier. These images were snapped by TeslaMondo and members of Tesla Motors Club. The images suggest that these could be the actual release candidates, and this is pretty much the final design, notes Gas2.

The Model X launch is expected to be a massive event as Tesla looks to establish itself as a lifestyle brand. Electric vehicles are yet to go mainstream, but Tesla’s upcoming vehicle may help popularize EVs further. The Palo Alto-based company is currently revamping its showrooms to support the release of Model X.

Model X production to gain momentum in 2016

Elon Musk said recently that the company was producing Model X in greater numbers each week. In fact, Tesla has dedicated 3-4 times more robots on the Model X production line than on the Model S line. The company has received more than 24,000 reservations for the upcoming vehicle. The company expects to deliver 50,000 to 55,000 vehicles in 2015, which includes up to 6,000 Model X units. Analysts expect Tesla to ramp up production to meaningful volumes only in the first quarter of 2016.

Last week, the EV maker started accepting Model X pre-orders in Australia. But deliveries there will begin only in the third quarter of 2016. Tesla is aggressively expanding its Supercharger network in Australia.
