Target date fund managers are continually working to improve returns even as their fundholders ‘set it and forget it,’ said Fredrik Axsater, Global Head of Retirement Programs for State Street Global Advisors. Axsater added that target date fund managers are always looking for new asset classes to secure stability and high income for their fundholders during retirement. He said the next stage for target date funds is to help the transition from accumulation to decumulation. Finally, Axsater said investors that lack the knowledge, interest or time to put into retirement savings should opt for target date funds.
