Apple, earlier this week, announced several new services, including video streaming, gaming and a premium news service. Of the three services, only the news service is available now in the U.S. and Canada. However, there is a trick that allows you to sign up for the Apple News+ outside the U.S. and Canada.

How to sign up for the Apple News+ outside the US?

To sign up for the Apple News+ outside the U.S. and Canada, the first thing that you need is an iPhone or iPad with iOS 12.2 installed. So, if your device is not updated to the latest iOS, then update it first.

Next, go to the Settings > General > Language and Region. Now, click on the country and select the United States.

After this, you will have to get a U.S. iTunes account. If you don’t already have one, you will have to create a new account with the U.S. as the selected country. It must be noted that your current downloaded music library will be deleted after you create a new account.

Before creating a new account, go to the App Store and click on the profile icon and then sign out of your current account. To create a new account, go to appleid.apple.com. Don’t forget to select the country as the U.S. Now, sign-in with your U.S. account.

You will now have to select a payment method. Though Apple News+ is offering a one-month free trial, you will have to add a valid payment method to your iTunes account to avail the offer. After the free trial, the service will cost $9.99 per month.

The best way to fund your subscription is to use an iTunes Gift Card. If not, then you can use a credit card or PayPal account. However, do remember to use a U.S. credit card or PayPal account. If you have a U.S. credit card then it is good, and if you don’t, you will have to find someone that has one.

You can also ask a friend or acquaintance to buy an App Store and iTunes gift card, and mail it to you or tell you the redemption code. You will have to redeem the gift card with the new Apple ID.

If you are unable to find someone willing to allow you to use their U.S. credit card, there is one more workaround. There is a family sharing option in Apple News+ at no extra cost. So, you can ask someone with a subscription to the News+ to add you to their Family Sharing account. However, you will still need a U.S. iTunes account for this.

How to sign up for Apple News+?

Once you are done with the payment part, the set up is complete. You will now have to sign up for the service like all users.

To sign-up for the Apple News+ open the News app and click on the News+ tab at the bottom. Once you are in the News+ section, go to the top on the “Try It Free” button and click it. You will be redirected to a new page, where you need to click “Try It Free” again.

Next, you will have to confirm the subscription using Face ID, Touch ID or a password. After the confirmation, you will have access to Apple News+ provided you entered the payment information (in the above steps) correctly (using a U.S. credit card or Gift Card).

You will now have access to all the features available under Apple News+. This workaround won’t work if you change the region back to any other country except for the U.S.

How to set preferred language order after changing region?

Separately, once you change the region on your iPhone or iPad, the iOS will automatically add a new language. If the default language is not your preferred one, then you can change the language from the settings.

To do so, first launch the settings from the Home screen and click General and then Language & Region. Now click on Edit at the upper right corner of the screen. You will now have to drag your preferred language to the top and tap Done located at the upper right corner. Now click Continue to confirm the change of language.

Most of the content will now show up in your native language. The apps and websites that don’t support your native language will display the content in the secondary language.
