The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be unveiled on March 14, and more and more details about it are coming out—hourly, it seems. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) released a teaser video on Monday to build the suspense even further, and not long after there was one more leak to add into the mix.
The well-known Twitter tipster @evleaks apparently tweeted some artist renderings of the Samsung Galaxy S4. While those images didn’t show the entire device, they did indicate that the Galaxy S4 is shaped differently than the S3.
However it has now been revealed that those images are essentially fake. Android Authority and numerous other tech blogs published the photos. Android Authority later published a second article after several people revealed that the same images were available on Expansys’ website without the @evleaks watermark.
Expansys is a French retailer of unlocked phones, and the company informed Android Authority that its web designer made the images as a placeholder until the real deal is unveiled. When we checked @evleaks Twitter feed later, the supposed images of Samsung Galaxy S4 were gone.
Whoever Evleaks is, usually he / she gets the information right, so it isn’t a surprise that so many major outlets reported on the supposed leak. Since it appears that the images have been removed, the tipster may have realized the error. TechCrunch reports that although Expansys has claimed Evleaks stole its images and added the Evleaks logo, the image “came in through their usual channels,” whatever that means.
Of course we’re still left with the same details we had before. The Galaxy S4 is expected to have a 4.99-inch Super AMOLED display with full HD resolution and a 13-megapixel camera. But for now at least, it looks like we’re going to have to wait until Samsung actually releases official images of the device.
