Yes, the previous rumors were true. The much-awaited Galaxy Note 5 is indeed arriving on August 13. Samsung announced Tuesday on its official blog that it would hold the Galaxy Unpacked event on Thursday, August 13. The event is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 AM EDT at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York.
Samsung to live stream Galaxy Note 5 launch event
The Galaxy Unpacked event will be live streamed on YouTube as well as Samsung’s official blog Samsung Tomorrow. The Korean electronics giant is also expected to unveil Galaxy S6 Edge+ alongside the Galaxy Note 5 at the same event. It’s the first time in several years that Samsung has advanced the launch of its Galaxy Note devices. The company historically refreshed its phablet line at the annual IFA event in September.
Recent reports suggest that Samsung wanted to gain a head start against Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S and 6S Plus by launching its devices earlier. Apple’s phones are unlikely to go for sale until mid-September. A Samsung executive told Korea Herald that only Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be rolled out globally soon after launch, while the Galaxy Note 5 will arrive only in select markets. The Note 5 will initially launch in markets where the previous generation Galaxy Note 4 sales were strong, including the U.S. and South Korea.
New images of Galaxy Note 5 leaked
Separately, French website NoWhereElse.fr has released a flurry of new images that show the Galaxy Note 5 in its full glory. The images show the device in a transparent casing, with design elements similar to that of the Galaxy S6. Leaked images suggest that both the front and back panel of the device are made out of the glass. We will have to wait until August 13 for final confirmation.
Galaxy Note 5 is rumored to feature 5.67-inch Super AMOLED display, 4GB RAM, Exynos 7422 processor, and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. What’s more, it will have a 4,100mAh battery, 16MP main camera, and 5MP front camera. Last week, Oberthur Technologies CEO Didier Lamouche said the Galaxy Note 5 would offer enhanced security because its security software will be linked directly to the processor.
