We’ve received word that all of the passengers who were stuck on the metro train that lost power in an underwater tunnel near Rosslyn Station outside Washington D.C. have been safely evacuated. Fox 5 DC reports that they were trapped in the tunnel for more than an hour. Although early reports indicate that the train lost power, it’s unclear exactly why the train got stuck in the tunnel.
The tunnel where the train got stuck is one of only two metro tunnels crossing the Potomac River and going into Virginia, notes RT.com. A spokesperson for the metro system told local media that trains were single-tracking to get around the blockage, although service through the tunnel has been restored, according to the transportation agency’s website.

Emergency workers have converged on Rosslyn Station in Washington D.C. after a train carrying more than 150 passengers got stuck in a tunnel nearby. The train reportedly lost power, stranding the passengers in the underwater tunnel which connects Foggy Bottom on the West side our nation’s capital with Arlington, Va.’s Rosslyn Station. According to local media, no injuries have been reported, although ambulances and other emergency vehicles are standing by outside the station.
