Penn Virginia gives Soros a boost

Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:EXPE) got an enormous boost today thanks to an apparently outstanding Q3 earnings report. The online travel company’s stock surged +18.07 to reach $58.99. Billionaire Jorge Lemann purchased 213,000 Expedia shares at $59.98 each last quarter. This position represents 1.68% of the billionaire’s portfolio.

Coming in at a close second is Penn Virginia Corporation (NYSE:PVA). The energy stock rose +14.57% to $8.52 following the company’s announcement of record oil production last quarter. Investor George Soros bought 6.2 million PVA shares at an average price of $5.59 last quarter, representing 0.39% of the billionaire’s holdings.

Up third is InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC); the tech firm increased +11.91% to $38.89 after a strong Q4 performance. John Paulson holds 2.9 million IDCC shares, which represent 0.94% of his fund. The billionaire paid an average price of $51.05 per asset.

Daily Losers

Bankrate Inc (NYSE:RATE) plunged today. The finance stock dropped -17.38% to $17.30 after missing its Q3 earnings target. Billionaire George Soros holds 1.1 million shares, representing 0.17% of his holdings. The investor increased his position last quarter with the acquisition of over 500,000 additional shares, bought at an average price of $12.94.

Following Bankrate Inc is Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE:BYD). Also the victim of a poor earnings report, the casino company fell -17.10% to $10.76. David Tepper is the only billionaire tracked by iBillionaire who has BYD stakes. Tepper holds 819,000 shares (0.13% of his fund), bought at an average $7.57.
