Arjumand Hussain has reportedly been fired from Gerry’s Group. Some are speculating that his firing is in connection with a video he took showing angry air passengers keeping Sen. Rehman Malik and PML and National Assembly member Ramesh Kumar Wakwani from boarding a PIA aircraft.
Gerry’s Group confirms Arjumand Hussain’s firing
Dawn reports that Gerry’s Group posted on its Facebook page that Hussain’s firing had nothing to do with that video. The firm said its sacking was “purely based on merit” and was not politically motivated. The Facebook posting also states that officials at Gerry’s Group have been mulling firing Hussain for some time. In addition, the post said that Gerry’s Group “condemns VIP culture and appreciates Mr. Arjuman’s efforts against it.”
However, the BBC reports that he did not receive a reason for his firing. He also said that he did not regret taking the video in question or standing up to VIP culture.
Malik accused of delaying PIA flight
Malik and Wakwani were accused of delaying a Pakistan International Airlines flight for more than two hours, forcing passengers to wait for them to arrive before their departure. Malik said he had nothing to do with the delay and that it was caused by a technical issue.
PIA also said technical problems delayed the flight. The airline added later that there was another “unnecessary delay” later which resulted in the suspension of at least two employees.
Arjumand Hussain stood up to Malik
The flight in question occurred on Sept. 16. When the delay happened, Hussain accused Malik and Wakwani of delaying the flight. He also took a video of the angry passengers protesting the flight delay. The video showed Wakwani being beset by an angry mob, according to the BBC.
That video ended up going viral, as Pakistanis praised Arjumand Hussain for taking it and standing up to VIP culture. The video was shared over and over on social media. Many Pakistanis also praised the passengers who protested the flight delay.
