Nokia, it seems, is following a convention to name its updates to the Windows Phone platform based on color. The last update from the Finnish firm was named the “Black” update, and if the rumors are to be believed the upcoming update could very well be called “Pink”.
New naming convention from Nokia
Recent screenshots of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 630 in China suggest that the new update could get a different type of color name, according to a report from WMPoweruser.
As can be seen in the screen shot, the next Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) update could be called the “Lumia Cherry Blossom Pink.” There are also speculations that the Cherry Blossom Pink update might be specifically for China as it was spotted in the region.
However, there are some doubts if the name actually comes from Nokia as the title is unusually long for the Finnish company. As of now, nothing can be said until Nokia and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) reveal the new Windows Phone 8.1 update for Lumia devices. In the upcoming Microsoft’s BUILD conference, Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) is expected to announce the Lumia 630 while the software giant will come out with Windows Phone 8.1 update.
Blue or Pink
Recently, a video containing some of the important features of the Lumia Black was released in Russia. At the end of the video, there was a mention of something called Nokia Blue. So, it was widely believed that the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update, arriving in summer, would be called Blue. But now it looks like the upcoming major update for Lumia smartphones will get a different name.
Apart from showing the Lumia Cherry Blossom Pink name tag, the leaked screenshots introduces some of the new features in the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 operating system. Nothing new has been revealed as these features have been discussed over the past few days. The leaked screenshots indicate many connectivity options like the USB prompt for data transfer, and a new option that could switch the device to the mobile network when Wi-Fi connection is not accessible. A setting that blocks the phone from using the mobile network is also shown.
