Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s upcoming Android smartphone will reportedly be a low-end device. This report comes from a tweet via @evleaks, which revealed the specs.

Details regarding Nokia’s rumored Android phone

The phone’s codename is Normandy and it will reportedly feature a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of memory, 4-inch WVGA screen, microSD card slot, dual-SIM setup, 5MP camera, and 4GB of storage. This purported Android device is rumored to come in six color choices.

Although Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) primarily focuses on smartphones with the Windows operating system, it’s apparent Nokia is trying to market a more successful phone under the popular Android name. A recent blog post from WMPoweruser offered a report on the device’s recent appearance:

“The Nokia Normandy has continued to make its way to market, with the latest being the handset’s appearance at the largest Vietnamese online retailer The Gioididong.com. There they confirm the previously released specs, including a 4 inch FWVGA 480×854 pixel screen, 5 megapixel camera, a 1 Ghz dual-core processor and 512 MB RAM and 4GB Storage.”

Nokia has to face stiff competition from Samsung

Android has a strong presence in the smartphone market. It’s also the only company that’s been able to give Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) real competition. This could be a big move for the company, however it still may not be enough. Samsung is still the lead in the Android market. A recent post from Forbes magazine indicated Samsung phones make up one in three smartphone sales. Overall global shipments surpassed 280 million during 2013’s fourth quarter. This added to the 980 million annual total of devices that shipped last year. This is an increase of 39% from the prior year (2012).

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) also shipped over 300 million phones in 2013. This accounted for over 30% total of smartphone shipments. This also represents 40% year over year growth.
