Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NOK)’s Android Phone Promo Image Leaked

Updated on

A promo image for Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s first Android phone was recently leaked. This is ahead of the rumored unveiling at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2014.

The phone is named Nokia X

According to the image, the phone is named Nokia X and it was recently spotted on a Vietnamese retail website. The listed price for the device was about $110, making it a low-priced phone. Possible specs for the phone include a 4-inch WVGA display, 512MB of memory, a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon chip, dual-SIM slot, and a 5-megapixel camera.  This phone will run on Android 4.4 KitKat.

Nokia X was sent to developers in India

Another notable report recently indicated Nokia X was sent to developers in India. It’s crucial for Nokia to win over developers if they want their Android phone to succeed. Surprisingly, rumors indicate that although this phone features Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s operating system, it won’t have any Google services built in and this means it won’t feature Google Play. This force Nokia to create their own features and application store. Fortunately, the company is a part of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and will likely utilize their services such as Bing, Skype, and Outlook. The company also has their HERE Maps application which could substitute for Google Maps.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s rumored phone could be a part of the Asha lineup and their rumored app store is codenamed Asha on Linux (AoL). It’s reported the company has already made negotiations for most of the Top 100 apps on the Play Store. This phone is expected to launch in India sometime in April.

BGR India reports, “Nokia is expected to announce the Normandy at its February 24 press conference at MWC in Barcelona. However, the smartphone is likely to be launched only some time later in March. According to people familiar with Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s plans, the company is aiming to launch the smartphone around Rs 6,500 in India, but it could change depending on the prevailing exchange rate among other factors. This is close to the price that was alleged last week by a Vietnamese online retailer.”

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s venture into Android territory could be just the bold move the company needed to make.
